EpiPen

Besides remaining in compliance with any permitting requirements and onsite safety during your mechanical operation, consider keeping yourself and others around you safe from severe allergic reactions, and especially in remote situations or when such allergies were previously unknown - purchase in EpiPen!

The principal preventive measure is an awareness of possible susceptibility to specific allergic reactions and the immediate availability of epinephrine (usually available as an auto-injector such as an EpiPen). Concerned individuals should consult a physician to determine whether they are allergic to epinephrine or other antihistamines.  People with auto-injectors should carry them at all times and make sure that they have not expired.  If they have a very serious allergy, they should carry more than one EpiPen, as one dose may not be sufficient.  An EpiPen should be included in first aid or survival kits, onsite at your mineral exploration or mining operation, or just have it close by for preventative measures where ever you may be.  Co-workers or others you are with should be instructed how to use the EpiPen in case the patient is unable to administer themselves.

When storing EpiPen, follow these recommendations:
  • Always store EpiPen in the carrier tube with the safety release on until you need to use it.
  • Keep EpiPen at room temperature.  Do not refrigerate.
  • EpiPen can be exposed to temperatures between 15° to 30°C.
  • Do not keep EpiPen in a vehicle during extremely hot or cold weather.
  • Protect EpiPen from light.
  • Regularly check the viewing window on your EpiPen auto-injector and replace it if the solution is brown, discoloured, or cloudy.
